I did yet another prom shoot. I really dont mind taking prom pictures, it gives me a chance to try new ideas for weddings; different positions, different editing, different approaches, ect. Its also implied that the more pictures you take the better you get.
Something I “focused” on differently in this set of pictures, is the dept of field. So what I did was enhanced the dept of field to where its visible but yet it looks natural. Also the the most focus points remains around our subjects. Other than that I enhanced the colors, clarity, a little bit of curves, and a slight bit of glow.
Last Saturday, I took pictures for Silver Creek High School students (class of 2012). I took pictures for more people than I ever had in my life. My biggest obstacle wasn’t how many people there were though. Although that was sorta a challenge; my biggest challenge was that there were two groups/ two different places = Limited to time. Unfortunately nothing really went according to plan, so what I learned was to save one shoot for the whole day instead of scheduling two shoots in one day. Also another thing is, “to be prepared for the unexpected”. During one of the shoots after, I set up my strobe lights, the location changed; meaning I had to set up the lights again at another location close by, but like I said, I was limited to time. As you can see in the pictures, there are shadows, so Cross Lighting did not work for the shoot as well as I thought for the specific location due to one of my lights dieing, but what can you do at that point? I just worked with what I had and after I edited the pictures to an extent where I thought it was a pretty good picture. As for the photography aspect of shoot, I gave the pictures more clarity and darkened the colors.
Im not picking “favorites”, but this group was really cooperative, they knew there poses like they just knew right when they got in front of the camera. Short story, the shoot was done in less than twenty five minutes.
As for the obstacles i faced with this group, like I mentioned earlier one of my lights were out so again the cross lighting failed. I would have used the natural light better, but the environment / background wasn’t exactly nice; meaning there were too many distractions but, I think that would be it as far as obstacles.
Exactly what i’m trying to convey in my pictures is to capture the moment, and capture the the smiles. Another thing im trying to work with, honestly is to be more social and be able to make my clients comfortable with the way I work, and comfortable in front of the camera. In this case I socialized a bit to the prom dates and they seemed happy with how I was working and everything worked out smoothly.
